The doc says that you should let the plants use up the water that is available to them, let things dry out a little. When they are watered, the plants will take up the freshly mixed nutrients right away, them being thirsty and all.  The other benefit is that the plants get the same drink every time, a fresh mix every 2 or 3 days.
